The Iranian expats living in US have alleged that US Treasury Department has blocked online donations made by Iranians living outside to help the survivors of a recent powerful quake killing 432 people, injuring over 9000 and destroying more than 12000 homes in areas closer to Iraq border.

The death toll in the devastating 7.3-magnitude quake that struck Iran in a region bordering Iraq has reached 540, with thousands of Iranians struggling to cope without basic necessities and making desperate pleas for help. "You can hear children crying, it's too cold".

At least 540 people were killed and close to 8,000 injured when the quake hit Sunday. Instead, people were having to trek to the other side of town to get water from a tank. "We need everything. The authorities should speed up their help", one homeless young woman in Sarpol-e-Zahab, where most of the victims died, told Reuters news agency.

Tuesday was declated a national day of mourning in Iran as officials described the levels of destruction in some parts as "total".

Iranian social media and news agencies showed images and videos of people fleeing their homes into the night.
