Sen. Al Franken groped, kissed her

Sen. Al Franken groped, kissed her

But the Minnesota Democrat said he has a different recollection of the kiss. "Regardless of party, harassment and assault are completely unacceptable - in the workplace or anywhere else", he said.

A Los Angeles radio news anchor says Democratic Sen. Franken was an Air America radio host at the time. He was elected in 2008 and took office in 2009. Franken said in a statement that Tweeden's account of the skit did not match his memory.

Original report: A Los Angeles news anchor and sports broadcaster on Thursday accused Sen. Tweeden claimed Franken, a former comedian and SNL writer, kissed her without her consent and groped her in 2006 on a United Service Organizations (USO) tour.

Franken, a Minnesota Democrat, offered Tweeden an apology in a statement released shortly after her post was published, saying he remembers the incident involving the kiss differently and that the groping was meant to be a joke but wasn't amusing. A photograph was taken of what Tweeden claimed was Franken touching her. But when she saw that her skit involved a kiss, she figured she "could turn my head at the last minute, or put my hand over his mouth, to get more laughs from the crowd".

She said he badgered her to practice the kiss scene, and that she eventually agreed, despite her discomfort.

Tweeden says Franken then grabber her head and forcibly kissed her and stuck his tongue in her mouth.

She said that after the incident, she made sure not to be alone with Franken again.

Addressing Franken, Tweeden wrote, "You knew exactly what you were doing. I'm telling my story because there may be others". "I didn't tell our USO rep what happened". In return, she said, she received "petty insults, including drawing devil horns on at least one of the headshots I was autographing for the troops".

"Senator Franken, you wrote the script", Tweeden wrote. Franken is the first sitting lawmaker in the aftermath of the allegations against Hollywood tycoon Harvey Weinstein to be named by an accuser of sexual misconduct.

In it, Tweeden found a picture of Franken fondling her breasts while she was asleep.

"I couldn't believe it".

"I had locked up those memories of helplessness and violation for a long time, but they all came rushing back to me and my hands clinched into fists like it was yesterday", Tweeden said. "I felt violated all over again". "How dare anyone grab my breasts like this and think it's amusing?"

In a statement to reporters, Franken said he doesn't remember the forced kissing, but said he shouldn't have conducted his behavior as he did in the photo. As to the photo, it was clearly meant to be amusing but wasn't. "I shouldn't have done it".

"... I wanted to shout my story to the world with a megaphone to anyone who would listen, but even as angry as I was, I was anxious about the potential backlash and damage going public might have on my career as a broadcaster", she continued.
