Arsenal hires Sven Mislintat as new recruitment head

Current chief scout Steve Rowley has stood down after 25 years' service and the Gunners have acted fast to bring in his replacement.

It was confirmed on Monday that Arsenal have appointed Sven Mislintat as the club's new chief scout.

Here's a closer look at the background of Arsenal's newest recruit...

He has been at Dortmund since 2007 and played a key role in the club signing Raphael Guerreiro, Ousmane Dembele and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. He has worked tremendously for Dortmund.

Their crowning moment nearly came in the Champions League in 2013, but after booking a Wembley date against rivals Bayern Munich, their hearts were broken by Arjen Robben, who scored an 89th-minute victor after Ilkay Gundogan had cancelled out Mario Mandzukic's opener.

Dortmund's scout has emerged as one of the most sought-after talent spotters in Europe having achieved a remarkable success rate in Germany.

The Gunners are said to be looking to modernize their approach to transfers, and Mislintat has been identified as the ideal man to begin the process.

It has been suggested Mislintat's arrival will pave the way for Arsenal to appoint Dortmund's sporting director Zorc, but a Borussia spokesman denied the rumours on Monday.

He penned a new contract just months ago, running until 2021. 'Identifying and developing talent is a core part of our philosophy and Sven has an outstanding track record over many years.

Wenger said: "We are delighted that Sven is joining us".

Arsenal now look set to take a far more analytical Moneyball-esque approach to their increasingly modern transfer operation, having been regularly maligned for a lack of good business over recent years.

"We would like to thank Steve Rowley for all his hard work over many years for the club", Wenger told Arsenal's official club website.

"We'd have liked to have kept him, he is a valued member of our staff".
