Michael Porter Jr. to undergo surgery, expected to miss season

Jeff Goodman of ESPN spoke to multiple National Basketball Association general managers who told him that as long as Porter's back "checks out", he will remain a likely top-five selection in the draft. Missouri forward Michael Porter Jr. is set to undergo back surgery and is likely to miss 3-4 months recovering, which would mean he's sidelined for the Tigers' entire campaign. The school said the projected recovery time is three to four months and that Porter is expected to make a complete recovery.

The five-star freshman saw a specialist Monday, with the ultimate verdict being surgery and what could wind up being a very short collegiate career given Porter's expected high National Basketball Association draft stock.

But Porter has such a unique skill set that it was going to be extremely hard to gameplan for this team.

This is a devastating blow to Missouri, who had hopes of returning to the NCAA tournament with the elder Porter on the roster. "I'm excited to get after it in Orlando".

"Our top priority as a program is the well-being of our student-athletes, so Michael beginning this process to be 100 percent healthy is important to all of us", Martin said in a statement. I'm thankful for the kind words & messages I've received from fans.

But this year, losing arguably the best player in college basketball is going to be too much to overcome. "I can not wait to be completely healthy and playing the game I love, once again".
