Derrick Rose on way back to Cleveland to rejoin Cavs

The Cleveland Cavaliers have announced that Derrick Rose will resume treatment on his injured ankle immediately, making what they call "the next step" in his return to the team.

The Cavs said Rose's status will be updated when he's able to return to play.

Rose signed a one-year, $2.1 million veterans minimum deal to join the Cavaliers this season. It was reported last month that Rose, who was on the injured list due to an ankle issue, had left Cleveland and was weighing his National Basketball Association future.

Coach Tyronn Lue said on Saturday said there has been positive dialogue between Rose and the organization.

Rose flew to Cleveland Monday morning to report to the Cavs training facility, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported.

Rose, who was signed as a free agent in the summer, hasn't played for the Cavs since November 7, when he sprained his left ankle.

The Cavs have been very supportive of Rose throughout his time away from the team, but during that stretch without him they've finally gotten things together.

Derrick Rose has missed 16 of the Cavs' 23 games so far this season, including the past 12 games, in which Cleveland has gone 11-1.

With Isaiah Thomas out with a hip injury, D.Rose was the starting point guard in the seven games he played but there's no guarantee he will automatically assume that spot once he recovers. They are now on an 11-game winning streak. The team is in Chicago for tonight's game against the Bulls - where he spent his first seven seasons.
