Authorities said the cat has a fractured leg but is expected to be OK.

"We are investigating the animal cruelty to a cat video". Officers with the Ontario Police Department went door to door in the neighborhood where they believe the incident happened after calls poured into the police station, sparking outrage from people not only in the city, but around the country.

The video, which was originally posted on Snapchat, shows the unidentified 16-year-old holding the cat and hurling it into the air, police said.

Police say the cat survived the incident but it suffered a broken leg. The cat yowled in pain as it hit the ground.

According to Daily Mail, the disturbing 10-second video is said to have been filmed in Ontario, California, and was posted to Snapchat on Friday afternoon. Investigators say they located the animal and its owner but no names were immediately released. "The Inland Valley Humane Society is assisting with the investigating and care of the injured animal".

Her kitten named Spots is a stray she found four months ago.

The cat's owner, Perla, told NBC4: "I just want [the perpetrator] to know he hurt a victim that can't defend itself". "We thank everyone for contacting our department with the video", the department said in a statement.

No arrests have so far been made and the investigation is ongoing.

"I know who he is but I don't know his name", neighbor Oscar Ramos told CBSLA. He hangs around here in the alley all the time. "He probably did it just to look cool on video", he added.
