Disney Could Buy Fox Next Week?

Comcast and Sony were other companies interested in Fox, but Disney's offer was more enticing.

Interestingly enough, the deal is expected to be finalized as soon as next week.

Walt Disney closing in on a deal to buy the media assets of Twenty-First Century Fox Inc., according to media reports Tuesday.

Murdoch's $15 billion bid to buy the 61 percent of Sky it does not already own is being watched closely in the USA where Walt Disney Co is in the lead to acquire much of his Twenty-First Century Fox Inc's media empire, including Sky.

The addition of Fox's TV assets and worldwide exposure would be attractive to Disney as it gears itself up to take on players such as Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon and Netflix with its forthcoming direct-to-consumer offering.

Fox itself will still have control of its own network, sports channel plus news and business divisions.

But it seems likely that-in the event of a deal-Murdoch would get a senior executive role at Disney no matter what.

The news has us salivating at the possibilities of an X-men/Avengers crossover and having mutants in the Marvel tv shows would be pretty damn cool. For one thing, if Disney does acquire Fox, and it sounds like it's going to happen, it would allow them to finally have access to X-Men and Fantastic Four. This means the new Star Wars films could include the iconic John Williams scores. There is also the fact that if the studios do merge, it would limit the field of studios that directors and filmmakers make their pitches to. Again, we will keep you posted as the news of this progresses.
