Fugitive Kentucky attorney to be returned to USA after Honduras arrest

Fugitive Kentucky attorney to be returned to USA after Honduras arrest

Eric Conn represented clients in Kentucky and southern West Virginia.

Honduran authorities have captured a fugitive USA lawyer who was on America's most wanted list.

In July, a USA judge handed Conn a sentence in absentia of 12 years prison under a plea deal he had agreed to before he fled in June.

Spokesman Jorge Galindo of the country's Technical Agency of Criminal Investigation said they left Honduras on a private plane.

Amy Hess, Special Agent in Charge, said that Conn is en route to the United States and will land at Blue Grass Airport between 4:30 - 5:30 p.m.

A Kentucky lawyer who disappeared after his conviction in a massive social security fraud case is in a Honduran jail.

News reports in Honduras said he was traced to the location after logging onto the restaurant's Wi-Fi.

The FBI held a press conference Tuesday to announce officially the capture of fugitive ex-attorney Eric C. Conn.

"We implored him to cooperate", she said. A conspiracy unraveled that resulted in another indictment against a co-worker that allegedly helped plot his escape and tested border crossings.

Conn was well-known in Lexington from TV commercials and billboards touting him as "Mr".

Conn's capture was cheered by his former clients and their families, who have struggled to make ends meet while fighting to keep their Social Security disability checks.

But U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert Wier last year placed him on home monitoring with a bond secured by his $1.5 million home, noting he had traveled extensively while under investigation in previous years and never absconded. When he pleaded guilty in March, Justice Department prosecutors recommended his continued release on those terms, pending his sentencing in July, and U.S. District Judge Danny Reeves accepted a plea bargain in which that recommendation was made.
