Cleveland Browns: Executive VP Sashi Brown fired

It makes sense for Jackson to throw support behind his players and coaching stuff during this time of upheaval, basically.

What comes next for the Cleveland Browns front office now that Sashi Brown is out?

Beyond the move to part ways with Brown, Haslem also announced the head coach Hue Jackson was safe for the 2018 season while thanking Brown for his efforts.

The winless Cleveland Browns fired executive vice president/general manager Sashi Brown, who had headed Cleveland's personnel department the past two years, ESPN reported on Thursday.

"We have great appreciation and gratitude for Sashi's commitment and leadership to our organization but believe transitioning to someone with strong experience and success in drafting and building consistently winning football teams is critical to the future of the Cleveland Browns", Jimmy Haslam said in a statement.

While Browns are now looking to finish 2017-18 on a high note, yet another No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick is likely on the horizon for the struggling AFC North franchise. The Browns' next GM will be its ninth since the franchise moved to Cleveland in 1999, the most in the National Football League in that span.

Brown was named the team's top executive by the Haslams during an overhaul following the 2015 season.

Brown's replacement will have five draft picks in the first two rounds next spring to work with, including two picks - the Browns' and Texans' first-round selections - that should fall in the top 10.

Cleveland's next personnel leader will be tasked with selecting that player. McCarron prior to the NFL's October 31 trade deadline.

Before the team played the Bengals two weeks ago, Jackson and Haslam both chatted with McCarron on the field while Brown stayed on Cleveland's sideline - a tell-tale sign of their rift.
