House approves bill granting gun owners hide and carry reciprocity

"This risky legislation would allow gun owners to bring their guns into Boston unchecked and concealed at a time when my officers are working tirelessly to keep guns and the damage and devastation they cause out of our city", Evans said in the statement.

"This vote marks a watershed moment for Second Amendment rights", said Chris W. Cox, executive director, National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action. If the bill -known as the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act- becomes federal law, it will contradict existing state laws and would increase the number of legally carried guns in the state.

Because this issue is so very important to millions of Americans, especially those who live in and visit states with harsh gun control laws like California, New Jersey, and NY, we look forward to working with our friends in the Senate to improve and pass the bill so that the right to bear arms will no longer stop at state borders or city lines.

"Even the most careful and knowledgeable concealed carry permit holders find it hard to navigate the current maze of state and local concealed carry laws", Rep. Richard Hudson (R-NC), author of the bill, said. "At a time when NY boasts some of the most significant drops in violent crime, this brash and misguided legislation has the potential to reverse that trend as it will make it easier for people with criminal histories to carry unsafe firearms on our streets". He also urged New Yorkers to Tweet their displeasure toward GOP lawmakers, although the list included Long Island's Pete King and Staten Island's Dan Donovan, two Republicans who voted against the measure.

The legislation now heads to the Senate. This bill will give law-abiding citizens the ability to protect themselves when traveling across state lines, a significant step forward in exercising our Second Amendment rights. The bill requires a response to an appeal in no more than 60 days. "I will continue to protect the constitutional rights of law-abiding gun owners".

But news of the bill's approval has been enthusiastically received among conservatives.

The House bill now goes to the Senate. "Marylanders convicted of violent crimes are not allowed to carry concealed weapons on our streets, but the CCRA would allow violent criminals from other states to do so here".
