Man Utd, Basel, Roma, Juventus into Champions League last 16

Today, Manchester United needs just a point at home to CSKA Moscow to seal first place in Group A, and already qualified Chelsea can finish top of Group C by beating Atletico. The results meant that the Italian side rose to the top of the group and Antonio Conte's side had to settle for second spot.

2 - CSKA will do well to leave Old Trafford with all three points, as it has only lost two of its last 48 Champions League group matches at home (Besiktas in 2009, Cluj in 2012).

Barcelona's possible opponents: Basel, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Shakhtar Donetsk and Oporto. Real Madrid are also confirmed to finish second and will be joined by three more sides - now scheduled to be Sevilla, Shakhtar Donetsk and Porto.

Just a reminder that you cannot play opponents from the same country in the last 16 or teams you have played in the group stages. The upshot of this is that Liverpool can not play Chelsea if they win their group, nor Sevilla (as much as we might want another crack at them). In each of the last three seasons, one Premier League club has been eliminated in the group stage.

That leaves only Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Besiktas as Chelsea's options.

Manchester City: Bayern Munich, Juventus, Basel, Real Madrid, Spartak Moscow, Sevilla, Porto or RB Leipzig.

Manchester City: Basel (20), Bayern Munich (4), Juventus (5), Seville (7), Porto (12) or Real Madrid (1).

Elsewhere Manchester City have already won Group F. However, Napoli and Shakhtar Donetsk are still fighting it out for the other place in the knockout stages of the competition.

As group winners, United can draw only the runners up of the other seven groups, while Chelsea can only face group winners and as you can see from the two tables below, both teams could be drawn against some of Europe's biggest heavyweights.

These restrictions are removed ahead of the quarter-finals.

Indeed, the changes implemented in time for next season, guaranteeing four group-stage spots for clubs from Spain, Germany, England and Italy, are really a step closer to a closed league for the elite.

When is the draw and when are the games?

The official group stage draw for the upcoming competition took place on Wednesday night, featuring 32 of the region's elite teams. The last 16 games will be played on the 13th, 14th, 20th and 21st of February and the second legs will be played on the 6th, 7th, 13th and 14th of March.
