The Switch passed 2.5 million units sold in the country, after only nine months from its release on March 3rd. Think of it like a tablet with a TV dock and dedicated controllers. The tablet portion of the console features a 6.2-inch capacitive touch-screen with an HD resolution (1280x720). According to the announcement, the PlayStation VR has now sold more than 2m units and more than 12.2m PSVR games have been sold.

Sony said that 130 highly anticipated entertainment content and games are planned for PlayStation VR.

Andrew House, chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment, said: "We are delighted that so many people are enjoying the unique entertainment proposition of PlayStation 4, and that an emerging technology like PlayStation VR continues to gain traction". Headset sales have likely been buoyed by the continued success of PlayStation 4, which has cumulatively sold through more than 70.6 million units to consumers worldwide. "I can not thank our fans and partners enough".

The 2 million PlayStation VR units sold also makes the company a real player in virtual reality, an area that Facebook's Oculus, Steam and HTC's Vive and the Samsung Gear VR are trying to carve out.

Of course, things can change in a heartbeat next year as Sony looks to start 2018 swinging. The $100 Black Friday discount helped sales of the PSVR as well. PlayStation players can expect to dig into titles like Dissidia Final Fantasy NT, God of War, Marvel's Spider-Man, and Days Gone among others.
