Ronda Rousey 'Finalizing' A Signing With WWE

Now people close to Rousey have told USA Today and MMA Junkie that she is "finalizing details of her move to WWE". A few years later, Rousey herself made an appearance at Wrestlemania 31, when she teamed up with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson to clash with WWE bosses Triple H and Stephanie McMahon.

Ronda Rousey's UFC career might, for all intents and purposes, by effectively over thanks to a 48-second rinsing from Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 back in December of 2016, but her career inside a ring is apparently far from over. "I wouldn't want it to happen". She's got enough money and all of that stuff.

Rousey was ostensibly there to cheer for her friend Shayna Baszler, a former UFC fighter competing in the tournament, but she wound up in a WWE segment that was shown in September.

Whether that actually happens remains to be seen, but Rousey is legitimately a huge name who can attract a wide audience in WWE regardless of what she does.

But it's still interesting to see a high-profile talent going from being associated with the UFC to being associated with WWE, as those organizations are likely to be in competition for broadcast rights soon. WWE's scripted programming and audience makeup is much different than the UFC's.

Adding a crossover star like Rousey could boost WWE. Meanwhile, she has appeared this year on NBC's "Blindspot", and is filming scenes for a Mark Wahlberg movie called "Mile 22". In a video posted to her Twitter account on December 1st previewing Rousey's new website, footage was shown of Rousey training at the WWE Performance Center.

A transition to professional wrestling wouldn't be surprising for Rousey. And she certainly was one of the most mainstream UFC stars. Her final fight with Nunes was in December of previous year.

Overall, if this move comes to fruition, it's not so much a direct loss for the UFC given the likelihood Rousey wasn't returning to the cage for them.

Rousey's ties to the WWE are numerous and speculation has been mounting that her apparently imminent jump to the 'E will lead to a marquee matchup at the upcoming WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans next April.
