Teams will not be happy to face Man Utd says Mourinho

The United boss is confident of signing the player in what is rumoured to be a £50 million deal.

The game also marked his first Champions League appearance since his horrific leg break in Eindhoven in September 2015.

Mourinho praised the full-back for being "very, very good" in a rare start as his side came back to beat the Russians at Old Trafford.

It had been 219 days since Luke Shaw started a first-team match for Manchester United and even then he only managed nine minutes before going off injured against Swansea.

"I hope there is a future for him".

The 22-year-old put in the type of performance United fans had expected to see when he joined the club from Southampton for £30m in 2014. However, it is clear he is not the long-term answer in the position for Mourinho.

Having proven he can play at the highest level on the biggest stage, Shaw did as much as could realistically be asked of him on Tuesday evening.

United sealed progression to the competition's last 16 for the first time in four seasons after goals from Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford cancelled out Alan Dzagoev's opener.

With the League Cup, FA Cup and Champions League - where they progressed as Group A winners on Tuesday night - all in play and chasing an eight-point deficit behind Premier League leaders Manchester City, Mourinho is keen to add a left-back, a winger and a central midfielder to his squad.

Question marks have been raised over the player's lifestyle off the pitch with former managers Mauricio Pochettino, Roy Hodgson and Van Gaal all questioning the player's weight and lifestyle choices.

Despite the positives of Tuesday night's performance, it's still a long way back into the first team, Mourinho is now short of options in this position.

"[Shaw] Was waiting for quite a long time, he was deserving for quite a long time, it is not easy to give an opportunity to a player who doesn't play for many months".

Nonetheless, Wright believes that Shaw would be a good addition to the Spurs team if United decide to sell by saying, "He would be a good addition".
