Georges St-Pierre Has Vacated His UFC Middleweight Title

Georges St-Pierre Has Vacated His UFC Middleweight Title

If the bout is signed, it will happen one day after Georges St-Pierre relayed he likely will not defend the middleweight title he won last month.

It appears that those skeptics may have been spot on with their assessment.

For most mixed martial arts (MMA) fans, the last legitimate 185-pound title defense came when Luke Rockhold lost his title to Michael Bisping in the summer of past year. "I don't think so", St-Pierre said.

Many assumed that the only reason GSP chose to compete in a higher weight class was because he saw a vulnerable champion that he could beat.

Robert Whitaker is Australia's first undisputed UFC champion - and he will defend his title for the first time against Luke Rockhold at UFC 221 in Perth.

There is no word on when, or if, GSP will return to the Octagon, but it is apparent that his next venture inside the structure will not be at 185 pounds.

Recently St-Pierre announced that he is dealing with an illness and will be out indefinitely. This marked his first fight since losing his middleweight title to Bisping at UFC 199 in June 2016.

The UFC also confirmed Whittaker would fight No. 3 challenger Rockhold in Perth. Let us know your thoughts on the matter in the comments section below! Now he will make his first walk as champion at home against Rockhold. "Of course, in terms of weight, if I want to go back to compete at 185, obviously eating, like I did what I did, I learned from my mistakes".

As a result, there are reports that a possible showdown between Rockhold and Whittaker could take place in early 2018. The former champion has been vocal about St-Pierre avoiding a fight with other middleweight contenders and only sought to fight a vulnerable opponent in the division who happened to be champion. However, a recent bout with colitis has forced St-Pierre to give up his crown.

"It's not a fake diagnosis, I have the paper of the doctor and everything to prove it", St-Pierre said. And who do you think would emerge victorious in the potential match-up?
