Stipe Miocic vs. Francis Ngannou Aiming For UFC 220 in January

Miocic will defend his championship against fast-rising contender Francis Ngannou in the main event of UFC 220 at the TD Garden in Boston, according to MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani, who reported the news late Wednesday night.

A victor of five consecutive fights, including two title defenses, Miocic has run through numerous top contenders at heavyweight, but now he'll be facing one of the best prospects to join the roster in several years.

With Stipe Miocic (17-2) looking at a record setting third straight title defense, there's no question UFC 220 will be big. The card takes place inside the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts on January 20.

Ngannou would be seven weeks removed from his most recent outing inside the Octagon, defeating Alistair Overeem at UFC 218 on December 2.

Miocic finished off his fifth straight knockout victory by backing up dos Santos against the cage and flooring him with a right hand to the head.

Ngannou is 11-1-0 in his professional MMA career and 6-0 since entering the UFC in 2015. Miocic's last five fights in total have resulted in stoppage wins.

Miocic last defended his championship back in May.

UFC 220 now features one other title fight, a light heavyweight championship showdown between Daniel Cormier and fast-rising contender Volkan Oezdemir. The heavyweight champ last fought at UFC 211 in May.

The only time both undisputed titles were on the line on the same night was at UFC 44 in September 2003. With her unanimous decision win, the new UFC champion makes her top-10 debut at No. 7, while Modafferi falls four spots to eighth.
