An natural disaster was felt in the Iranian capital Tehran, sending hundreds of people running out onto the streets.

The epicenter of the quake was 3 km from the city of Malard, and not far from Meshkin Dasht, which sits about 50 km west of Tehran, state news agency IRNA said.

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

Since the natural disaster happened, all officials and the law enforcement forces as well as social services and relief organizations in Tehran and other provinces affected by the incident have been on full alert and now there is readiness at all levels, Rahmani Fazli said on Thursday.

A 70-year-old woman died of heart attack and a 10-year-old girl from Alborz province lost her life due to the stress caused by the 5.2 quake that struck Alborz province and was felt in various surrounding cities, including Tehran.

Last month, a 7.3 magnitude natural disaster jolted the Iranian border, killing at least 620 people and injuring thousands others.

The quake was also felt in the cities of Karaj, Qom, Qazvin and Arak according to state TV.

"We are asking people to stay calm as the traffic itself could create problems", the Iranian Red Crescent's Mortza Redmare said on television.

There are earthquakes in Iran regularly.

People started slowly returning to their homes again in the morning of December 21, the ISNA news agency reported.

Iran's worst quake in recent years was a 6.6-magnitude tremor that struck near Bam in 2003, decimating the ancient city and killing at least 31,000 people.
