Heat's Dion Waiters Expected To Undergo Season-Ending Surgery

Miami Heat guard Dion Waiters will undergo season-ending surgery on his troublesome left ankle, league sources told ESPN. Considering he'll undergo surgery to correct the issue, it seems doubtful he was recovering as hoped. Waiters opted not to have surgery last season, but after getting multiple second opinions this week, he reportedly decided he couldn't wait any longer.

Waiters, 26, has missed the past nine games because of the injury, including Wednesday night's contest against the Pacers.

Prior to this decision, Waiters had been resting and rehabilitating the ankle, but it was unclear if he had been making significant progress.

Dion Waiters has not suited up for the Miami Heat since December 22 due to a left ankle injury.

His season will end having appeared in 30 games and averaging 14.3 points, 3.8 assists, and 2.6 rebounds per game. It is a brutal end to the first year of Waiters' four-year deal that he signed with Miami over the offseason, one that will pay him a total of $52 million.

The Heat now sit fourth in the Eastern Conference.
