LG's Rollable Display May Be the Future of TVs

LG's Rollable Display May Be the Future of TVs

The new LG Display is the world's first 65-inch rollable OLED display.

Three impressive TVs and a giant tablet announced in just hours but we will likely see more soon. Under the hood, the high-end TVs are powered by LG's fastest Alpha 9 that LG says can more accurate color and "enhanced image rendering".

LG Display is the sole large-size OLED manufacturer now, as Samsung has already shifted its focus to QLED TVs.

LG's CLOi smart robot range has been expanded with the creation of three new concept robots, created to be used in hotels, supermarkets and airports. However, while we have had OLEDs for some time now, it took the ingenuity of a company of the likes of LG to actually make something as unique as a TV that can even be rolled up like a poster.

In-Byung Kang, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at LG Display stated that the successful development of this screen is critical in the 8K scenery.

The pricing information on the device has also not been given yet. It's like having a Google Home built into your TV - and could be an especially useful feature for those of us with burgeoning smart homes.

Opening Up the HDR Floodgates: Adding Support for All FormatsOn the HDR front, all 2018 LG OLED and LG SUPER UHD AI TVs will feature 4K Cinema HDR, enabling support of all major HDR formats. The recent improvements to the company's Crystal Sound OLED technology that makes sound emanate directly from the panel will also be showcased.

Panasonic also unveiled two new Ultra HD Blu-ray players, including the DP-UB820 and the UP-UB420. Speaking of HDR, the 2018 line will support the full gamut of standards, from HDR10, HLG to Dolby Vision, Advanced HDR, HLG Pro and HDR Pro.

ThinQ is a form of artificial intelligence which is shared across a number of new LG products, from televisions and speakers, to fridges, ovens, washing machines and more.

This display is purely for those movie producers who have an 8k video production pipeline and need to see what their product looks like on a big screen and the OLED quality, means they can see it basically in the quality it was shot.

I've yet to receive any official word on United Kingdom pricing and availability but I'll be sure to update this article when I hear more.
