Transport Services Hit As Fog Continues To Grip National Capital

In addition to the fog, the air quality of Delhi has not really improved much, and is still at the "very poor" mark.

The waiting hall and the area near the boarding gates at Terminal 1 was packed with people sitting on the floor and staircases waiting for announcements on their delayed flights.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 5 degrees Celsius, two notches below the season's average, said the Met department. The sky will remain clear during the day, IMD said.

"Some 17 domestic and worldwide flights have been delayed to and from Delhi's Indira Gandhi global Airport owing to low runway visibility because of dense fog". Dense fog is expected on Thursday with temperatures expected between 20°Celsius and 6°Celsius. Significantly, both private airport operator and airlines had claimed full preparedness to carry out flight operations on their parts ahead of the fog season.

Dense fog engulfed the national capital region on New Year on Monday with the visibility dropping to zero. It is yet to be seen what further consequences of the fog are going to be, but for now, it seems to have compromised the travel of many people.

Airport were severely affected due to low visibility.

Concerns were raised about additional costs involved for airlines due to diversions and cancellations, in a meeting held to review standard operating procedures (SOPs) for flight operations during the fog.
