Eric Clapton: 'I'm going deaf'

Eric Clapton: 'I'm going deaf'

The appearance came a day after Clapton told BBC Radio 2 in an interview that he is "going deaf", has tinnitus and that his hands "just about work". Tinnitus is often a symptom of a more severe condition, such as hearing loss.

Though the guitarist, 72, still sounded as sharp as ever on his 2016 album "I Still Do", he has said that eczema, among other challenges, have made it more hard to perform at his best.

One of the greatest guitarists in music history just revealed he's going deaf.

Despite the challenges, Clapton is hopeful that fans will still attend his concerts. Still, he acknowledges that curiosity status "is part of it, because it's unbelievable to myself that I am still here. I am going to do a show at Hyde Park [British Summer Time Festival] in July", he says. I'm concerned with now is being in my 70s and being able to be proficient.

It's unbelievable that Eric is still performing because on top of his hearing loss, Eric also has peripheral neuropathy, a condition that causes weakness and pain in hands and feet.

The legendary singer/guitarist is the subject of new documentary Eric Clapton: Life in 12 Bars. It's also a warts and all look at the darker side of Clapton's life and doesn't shy away from dealing with his 20-year long battle against drug and alcohol addiction. He said that he would drink "special brew with vodka", but wants people to know that if you're willing to seek help that "there's light at the end of the tunnel". "It started with lower back pain and turned into what they call peripheral neuropathy, which is where you feel like you have electric shocks going down your leg".
