Gillian Anderson Not Returning For American Gods Season Two

Gillian Anderson Not Returning For American Gods Season Two

At New York Comic-Con in October, Anderson indicated that the new season would be her last, although FOX issued a statement at the time saying Anderson "has not commented on returning as it's premature in that she is now filming the new event series".

But earlier this month, "X-Files" creator Chris Carter said without Anderson, he wouldn't be interested in doing more shows.

Anderson, who's recently parted ways with American Gods too, fielded questions during a Television Critics Association panel and confirmed she's ready to pack it in as Scully. She adds, "It's time for me to hang up Scully's hat, it just is". "I have so much respect for these guys", she said of her colleagues, "but I'm finished and thats the end of that..."

The Golden Globe-winning actress revealed that she actually arrived at the decision to leave the series before filming the show's six-episode Season 10, which aired last 2016. 'I felt that the previous six was going to be it. It was dipping our toe back in again and just meeting up again and making the most of it and getting to play these wonderful characters again.

But then, after the episodes were in the can, she realized that she "wouldn't be happy if those six were the way to say goodbye". Anderson has found success in movies and TV alike, with some of her more recent notable roles including characters on the Hannibal TV series as well as the adaption of American Gods. "Bryan [Fuller] and Michael Green aren't either, as has been announced", Anderson said. It would be impossible to imagine The X-Files moving forward without Scully, though to be fair, the show attempted something similar during Season Eight when co-star David Duchovny quit being a full-time character on the show after filing a lawsuit against 20th Century Fox. "You may need to talk to me in a few years about that once I finally shut the door". But it's not as if Anderson's taking a break - she's already set to star in two films due for release this year, The Spy Who Dumped Me and Andorra. "I'm feeling pretty pissed off, now that I remember", Duchovny joked. Now it seems both Anderson and Scully are saying goodbye to The X-Files for good.
