NZ run through Pakistan for record win

New Zealand have dismissed Pakistan for a record-low score to win their third one-day worldwide in Dunedin and seal the five-match series.

Dunedin pitch was especially hard for batsmen from both sides. But the pitch at the University Oval has traditionally offered less bounce and pace, so Pakistan might feel more at home.

New Zealand 257 all out in 50 overs (Kane Williamson 73, Ross Taylor 52; Rumman Raees 3 for 51, Hasan Ali 3 for 59) beat Pakistan 74 all out in 27.2 overs (Rumman Raees 16, Mohammed Aamer 14; Trent Boult 5 for 17) by 183 runs.

After Taylor was out for 52 in the 43rd over with the total 209-4, New Zealand slumped dramatically, losing its next six wickets for 48 runs.

Dangerman Fakhar Zaman was bowled for two and Taylor also caught Mohammad Hafeez for a duck in Boult second over and Pakistan were in a hole they were never going to get out of.

A run out and wickets to Lachie Ferguson and Colin Munro saw Pakistan collapse further to 6/16 within 15 overs, before they rallied and lost their last four wickets for 58. They looked alright until the score was 158/3. At one point in the match, Pakistan were reeling at 17/7. The hosts were set a revised target of 151 in 25 overs.

But the Black Caps, bowled out with the final ball of their innings, could only muster 62 more runs at the windy University Oval.

All-rounder Todd Astle will probably top the list, having meekly lobbed a slower delivery from Raees to Fakhar Zaman at mid-wicket.

New Zealand are already 2-0 in the five-match series but Williamson is not completely happy, especially with the bowling to lower-order batsmen.Pakistan rocketed from 141 for seven in the 37th over to make 246 for nine in game two, repeating a pattern that has been all too common in recent seasons where New Zealand have let the score get away on them after a solid start.

The fourth ODI will be played on Tuesday while the series concludes in Wellington on 19 January.
