African nations slam Trump's vulgar remarks as 'reprehensible and racist'

But Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina), whom Durbin said had voiced objection to Trump's comments during the meeting, issued a statement that did not dispute the remarks.

Florida GOP Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen said Trump's comments were "completely unacceptable", telling WPLG-TV in Miami that "if that's not racism, I don't know how you can define it". Trump tweeted Friday morning: "The language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used. Sorry, but there is no other word one can use but ´racist´", Rupert Colville, spokesman for the United Nations human rights office, told reporters in Geneva.

"The African Union Mission wishes to express its infuriation, disappointment and outrage over the unfortunate comment made by Mr. Donald Trump", the statement read.

Trump's reported comments, made during closed-door White House talks on an immigration deal on Thursday, were a reaction to a plan drafted by a bipartisan group of senators to protect juvenile immigrants from deportation and make other changes to immigration laws and border security.

Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren called Trump's comments racist, vile and disgusting in a Facebook post Friday and took the opportunity to talk about a child who was in Haiti when the quake it. The senators are working to codify the protections in DACA.

"Join us", the former Los Angeles mayor said on Twitter. "I expect that our assistance programmes would continue pretty much as they are", Jackson told Joy News.

"Why do we need more Haitians?"

The African Union said Friday that President Donald Trump's reported description of African nations as "sh*hole countries" broke with "accepted behaviour" and was "extremely upsetting".

Judge Hatchett adds, "The comments yesterday, by President Trump, were absolutely, absolutely disgusting". "That's not how a president behaves". Throughout my twenty years as a humanitarian, I have seen strong, resilient people face humanitarian disasters, conflicts, and poverty and still find the courage and strength to lift themselves and their families out of poverty. Associated Press White House reporter Jonathan Lemire said no one at the White House denied "that he used these vulgar terms to describe these immigrants". Macky Sall, president of Senegal, tweeted on Friday that he was "shocked" by Trump's words, adding that "Africa and the black race deserve the respect and consideration of all".

The Republican president has also privately defended his remarks, saying he was only expressing what many people think but will not say about immigrants from economically depressed countries, the Associated Press reported.
