Backlash continues over President Trump's reported comments

Backlash continues over President Trump's reported comments

Trump has said he will end the program in March unless Congress acts - and also authorizes strict border enforcement measures, too.

In a tweet Friday, Trump denied saying "anything derogatory about Haitians". And it prompted senators who were present at the meeting to answer questions Friday about their recollections of the startling remarks. Never said 'take them out.' Made up by Dems. "But I've never met a Haitian who isn't strong". "Probably should record future meetings - unfortunately, no trust!"

"My colleague, Republican Sen".

The president added that he wanted "a merit based system of immigration and people who will help take our country to the next level" and "safety and security" for Americans. When Haitians' protected status came up, Durbin said Trump responded "Haitians?"

Meanwhile, Kathinka Froystad addressed the President directly, saying: "Dear Mr President, I am glad you enjoyed meeting my prime minister, but I am quite happy where I am and would not even dream of settling down in the United States during your s***hole, racist and misogynist regime".

"We can solve the DACA issue, but we've got to have some structural changes to how people come into the country", Senator Perdue said in the TV interview. "That was the nature of this conversation".

"That's highly unbecoming of a president if somebody uses that kind of language, period", Kang said.

The news broke late Thursday afternoon that during a meeting with lawmakers, Trump described some countries in Africa and the Caribbean, like Haiti, as "sh-hole countries".

Fallout from the president's racist comments on immigration continued early Saturday, as the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, condemned Donald Trump in a tweet.

Former Haitian Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe tweeted, "SHAME ON TRUMP!"

Immigrant Daniel Desir, who runs a restaurant, is anxious that Trump's remarks could negatively influence other people and their perceptions about newcomers.

"He continued: "....countries which are doing badly.

"American dream? It's true, but American dream is on your hands, you have to work, you're not going to sleep, the dream wakes you up, you have to work for it", says Mdoob.

"When you're doing that well and you have that many accomplishments, don't you want people to be talking about your accomplishments?"

In an essay for Time, the 57-year-old actor and founder of the J/P Haitian Relief Organization slammed Donald on the eighth anniversary of the devastating 2010 Haiti natural disaster.
