Ozil could stay, Sanchez unlikely: Wenger

Ozil could stay, Sanchez unlikely: Wenger

Craig Burley has claimed that Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez is more than happy to sit tight and wait for his move to Manchester City.

But City are reluctant to meet Arsenal's £35 million (€39m) asking price and foot the £5m (€5.6m) bill Sanchez's agent, Fernando Felicevich, is reputed to want for his part in the deal.

And City are not concerned if this stance opens up a route for arch-rivals Manchester United, to step in.

The BBC reports that City will not be held to ransom by Arsenal and could let the Chilean slip through their grasp, out of principle, for £35m - or £40m thanks to his managers' demands for £5m. "You conclude that", he said. Meanwhile, Sanchez is 29 but does offer a stronger guarantee of match-winning displays than a player who is still more potential than end product.

Wenger admitted a bidding war could help Arsenal but said that was not the current situation.

Fred impressed for Shakhtar during their recent qualification from the Champions League group stages, when the Ukrainian champions became the only team to beat Guardiola's City so far this season. And because they want to replace me they have to spend 50 or 60 million. "But you know my answer. I'm focused on Liverpool".

"The only word I can say is he is a phenomenal player, apart from that Arsenal player and I feel I shouldn't say much more than this".

If a deal can not be agreed with any club, Sanchez will be able to leave when his contract expires in the summer - a situation Arsenal are keen to avoid as they would receive nothing.

"He's a great player and he knows very well that in my first season at Juventus we tried to buy him from Udinese, and then he made a decision to go to Barcelona. And I have great respect for the plan of the others because everyone tries to kill you". Aaron Ramsey, Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott all have 18 months remaining on their deals, and Wenger believes he knows why more and more players are choosing to run down their contracts.

"Is he (Sanchez) replaceable in the way that we find exactly the same player?"
