Mourinho 'doesn't see many left-backs better than Shaw'

Shaw has had a challenging time at Manchester United, especially under Jose Mourinho, who has questioned the players ability, attitude and form on numerous occasions in the last 18 months.

JOSE MOURINHO claims there is no left back in the country better than Luke Shaw.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has suggested that he will eventually sign a new contract at Old Trafford.

But the England defender has started five consecutive games for United and is expected to face Burnley this weekend despite the return of Ashley Young from suspension.

"Luke [has done] very well, played very well. He was already improving and playing well when I start playing him after that long spell without minutes", Mourinho continued.

"Now with a good run of matches and continuity, also playing like he did against Everton two days after a previous match, he's good, solid".

It wouldn't be an understatement to say that Mourinho has been the youngster's biggest critic but he has certainly been won over by his performances, and Shaw was full of praise for his coach for giving him "extra confidence" throughout the festive period which he says was the "best thing" for him to regain full fitness.

Eric Bailly and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are the only other injury absentees, while Henrikh Mkhitaryan will remain sidelined while he waits for his proposed move to Arsenal to be completed.

"You like the transfer market, I can say that in this moment I don't see many left-backs better than this Luke Shaw".

He added: "I'm feeling good and it's been really nice to be back on the pitch and enjoying having game time".

Mourinho's own future at Old Trafford is set to be secured, asSky Sports News understands he is on the verge of signing a contract extension that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2021.
