Governor says RSS youth's murder disturbed him, ABVP seeks NIA probe

The arrested SDPI activists have been identified as Muhammed (20), Minikkol Salim (26), Neerveli Sameer (25), and Hashim.

A dawn-to-dusk hartal called by BJP has begun in Kannur district to protest against the murder of an RSS activist at Nedumpoyil near Peravoor by an unidentified gang on Friday.

A group of masked men, who came in a black vehicle, attacked Shyam Prasad with sharp weapons. The house was locked and the assailants caught up with him and murdered him in front of the house. He died as locals were rushing him to a hospital.

The gang of men who were wearing masks had fled the spot as neighbours came rushing.




The accused were taken into custody from Thalappuzha in Wayanad.

The dead body of the victim will be taken to his native accompanied by a mourning procession after post-mortem at the Pariyaram Medical College.

Kochi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president Kummanam Rajasekharan on Saturday urged the Centre to intervene in the matter of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) worker's murder. A police team led by Iritty DySP Prajeesh Thottathil, Peravoor CI A Kuttikrishnan and Koothuparamba CI Joshy Jose is camping in the area.

The police have arranged for tight security in the district following the murder to avoid any more untoward incidents.
