Rose McGowan Remembers Jill Messick, Wishes Family "Solace"

Rose McGowan Remembers Jill Messick, Wishes Family

"That one man could cause so much damage is astounding but tragically true".

"She put her arms around me", McGowan told the paper. "The bad man did this to us both", McGowan wrote, referencing Weinstein. The exec was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and had been battling depression for years.

Messick's name became involved in the Weinstein fallout that began last October, when numerous women started stepping forward with their own claims of misconduct from the now-disgraced producer.

In a statement to ET on Thursday, Messick's family was critical of both Weinstein and McGowan, saying, in part: "Jill was victimized by our new culture of unlimited information sharing and a willingness to accept statement as fact. May you find serenity with the stars".

McGowan faced backlash a few days ago for posting a selfie of herself commending a past even where she spoke out for women and avoided commenting on Messick' death. They added that Jill "became collateral damage in an already horrific story".

"Seeing her name in headlines again and again ... along with Harvey's desperate attempt to vindicate himself, was devastating for her", the statement said.

Messick was McGowan's manager during the 1997 Sundance Film Festival, where the actress alleges Weinstein raped her. McGowan recently claimed that Messick had failed to support her after disclosing Weinstein's behaviour.

The family also stated that McGowan's accusations against Messick were "ironic" since she was the first person who "stood up" for the actress at the time of the alleged assault. Weinstein in late January provided news outlets with emails from Messick detailing what she remembered of the day McGowan told her about the alleged rape.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that studio executive and producer, Jill Messick has died from suicide on Wednesday.
