Conte admits he is 'a disaster' in the transfer market

West Brom boss Alan Pardew has expressed sympathy for Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte, who he believes has done little wrong since guiding the club to their sixth league title last season.

"I think that I'm the type of coach who, if I have a player who is [a] six, I bring him to an eight", he added.

I do feel sorry for the manager because the job he did a year ago was absolutely outstanding and I don't really think he's changed too much.

"I've got no problem picking him", said Pardew. "I have great admiration for Luis Enrique and he is a fantastic coach". In terms of their mentality also...their desire, their will to fight, and all the tactical aspects.

"But, I repeat, I'm not jealous or envious of other managers".

"We realise it's a hard task when you see the fixtures we have coming up, hence why I say it will probably define our season", said Chelsea captain Gary Cahill.

Conte knows Enrique well from their time in Serie A and is full of praise for the now out-of-work manager.

When it was put to Conte that he might be too adept at improving players for his own good when it comes to convincing his clubs to spend more, he replied: "You are not the first person to suggest this, to tell me this".

Maybe the quality of the opposition has changed and maybe the players he's had available haven't been to the consistency he had when he won it, but you can not fault his record and the job he's done since he came to the Premier League.

Since taking over at Stamford Bridge, the 48-year-old has imposed various bans - like ketchup in the players' canteen - to maintain a strict regime.

Chelsea's board know their time with manager Antonio Conte is coming to an end. Luis Enrique would reportedly be Chelsea's next coach, even for the Champions League match against Barcelona. I can speak about him very well, as a person and a coach.
