Kim Jong-Un Invites South Korea's President To Summit Meeting

South Korean President Moon Jae-in sat next to the powerful sister of the North's leader Kim Jong-un at a concert in Seoul by musicians from Pyongyang, as conservative protesters burned the North's flag outside on Sunday.

The last thing spectators at the 2018 Winter Olympics were expecting to see was US President Donald Trump hanging out with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. Indeed, some experts are anxious that Pence's dour attitude toward the host nation's team will just be seen as disrespectful.

The DPRK delegation was led by Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly.

The two Koreas technically remain at war as the 1950-53 Korean War ended with an armistice, not a peace treaty.

The US has been cautious about the invitation, with vice president Mike Pence also in South Korea to warn the country against "falling for" the North's overtures.

"We should firmly keep in mind any talks where denuclearisation is not a precondition only buy North Korea more time to complete its nuclear capabilities while they fool us with their peace offensive facade", said Chang Je-won, spokesman for the Liberty Korea Party. The vice president wanted to show the "alliance was strong" by sitting with Moon and Abe.

Moon did not immediately accept the invitation and has said he hopes the "right conditions" will be created so it can go ahead.

The previous function was Thursday in Gangneung, alternative venue of the Olympic Games, before a room full of its capacity. "We just have to concentrate on what we've been doing all along", Koike said after practice at Kwandong.

It marked the first time in eight and a half years that a high profile DPRK delegation visited South Korea's presidential complex.

Twenty-two North Korean athletes are attending the Games.

Officials traveling with Pence said it would be fair to characterize his failure to interact with the North Koreans as a mutual decision, with neither side making any public overtures. Almost 50 sailors aboard the Cheonan were killed.

"They have to abandon their nuclear ambitions".

At breaks in the skating the cheerleaders sang songs of encouragement to the delight of the crowd, who gave them a rousing ovation at the end of each rendition.

Moon has invited Kim and other senior North Korean officials to a luncheon at Seoul's presidential palace on Saturday.

Pence had said all week that if he met with the North Koreans, he would deliver a tough message.

And as the South appeared to look favorably on warming ties on the Korean Peninsula, Pence insisted Saturday "there is no daylight" among the United States and allies South Korea and Japan in intensifying pressure on the North over its nuclear and missile programs.

In the meeting with North Korean officials, Moon stressed the need for the communist North to resume dialogue with the United States.
