Potter fights off stars to earn second PGA Tour win

Potter fights off stars to earn second PGA Tour win

He'll be in the hunt along with Johnson - who opened 2018 with a dominant victory in the Tournament of Champions last month - and former world number one Jason Day of Australia.Day, victor at Torrey Pines two weeks ago, had six birdies in a three-under par 69 at Pebble Beach for a 12-under total of 203.

"It feels so good right now", he said.

Potter, who won just over $207,000 (£150,000) a year ago, picked up more than $1m for his victory on Sunday.

The win gets Potter a spot in the Masters this April, where he's made just one career appearance in 2013.

American Kevin Streelman (68) finished alone in sixth and Scott Stallings (66) was seventh at 12-under 275, five shots adrift of Potter.

Potter shot a 62 on Saturday, grabbing the solo lead with four birdies on his back nine.

Much like he fought to get back to the winner's circle, Potter fought on Sunday, bouncing back after a first-hole bogey with four birdies in his next seven holes, capped off by a chip-in at the par-3 seventh that extended a lead he would never relinquish. But it was on the front nine that he really sizzled, playing the first seven holes in seven-under par with five birdies and an eagle.

His only blemish Sunday was a three-putt bogey on is first hole but after that it was smooth sailing the rest of the way.

World number one Dustin Johnson, joint overnight leader with Potter, birdied the last to also finish on 14 under.

"All in all, still a good week, you know, T-two I guess is not bad, but I would have liked to put a little bit more pressure on Ted today", Johnson said. Reavie has now finished second in two straight starts.

Fitzgerald, 34, who played in the pro-am last at the Phoenix Open last week, has become a golf fanatic the past few years.
