Proteas down India in nail-biting ODI

Proteas down India in nail-biting ODI

India won the toss and elected to bat first against South Africa in the fourth One Day International (ODI) of the six-match series at the Wanderers in Johannesburg on Saturday. Team India look a settled bunch and Virat Kohli, who has been in imperious batting form himself, would look to continue with the same playing XI, unless a lush green top waits for us at the Bullring. Before the third ODI, Shikhar Dhawan had highlighted that the team wants to win every game ahead of them, building on victory in the third Test here, and there would be no complacency in the dressing room.

South Africa have registered a win over India by five wickets by Duckworth-Lewis method.

But the main talking point of the day was wrist-spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal's below-par perform-ances. India had previously broken into unchartered territory at Newlands when, for the first time since they began touring here in 1992-93, they won three matches in a bilateral ODI engagement in South Africa.

"After the break when Shikhar and Jinks [Ajinkya] came off the wicket played a bit differently, it wasn't as good to bat after the break", he said.

In the process, Dhawan (109) became the first Indian batsman to score a century on his 100th ODI and ninth overall.

Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravendra Jadeja, in 2015, and then Moeen Ali, who bowled with superb rhythm and with great flight in England past year, have been the spinners who most recently in the Test arena have dominated the Proteas batsmen. South Africa are huge ambassadors of spreading awareness of health related causes in sport.

Mignon du Preez scored a valiant unbeaten 90 as South Africa pulled off a consolation seven-wicket win over India in the three-match series, which was part of the ICC Women's ODI Championship.

It is a comment on SA's uncertainties in their one-day series against India that the return of AB de Villiers to the fold is not unqualified good news.

A couple of balls later, Miller was once again at the receiving end of some serendipity.

Between them they managed to take just 3 wickets. The South Africans have conceded that they have yet to get a hang of the duo, which has tormented the hosts continuously.

Rabada and Lungi Ngidi picked up two wickets apiece, while Morris and Morne Morkel chipped in with one wicket each.

"When AB got out we felt we were in the game but these two took it away from us". "Spinners can not turn it that much and yeah that made a difference for us".

It's not as if either Chahal or Yadav are new to the scene; the former's been contracted in the IPL for the past six years, although he only really made a breakthrough in 2015 for the Bangalore franchise, while Yadav has been on the books of a couple of IPL sides too and been an global player for the past year.

Deepti, on the other hand, grabbed the opportunity with both hands and was unfortunate to miss out on a hundred. "My support is always with them", Dhawan said.

As soon as Markram was removed, the players came off the field due to lightning and rain.

The victory will sure bring back South Africa's confidence, which faded since India's triumphant run commenced.
