Graft cases: Nawaz, Maryam and Safdar appear before NAB court

Reacting to NAB's plea, Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) senator Pervez Rashid said that the bureau should not target those who are facing trials and that the Sharif family holds itself answerable before the courts.

Mubashir Tauqir Shah recorded his statement before the court and said a CD containing volume 5 of Panamagate JIT report has been handed over to NAB officer on February 5, besides providing the investigation officer (IO) a 12-page interview transcript of Hassan Nawaz's interview to BBC.

To which, he said the IO didn't document his statement rather took signature on a memo.

In the second letter, it requested to place Maryam Nawaz Sharif and her husband Captain (retired) Safdar to on the ECL as both are accused in the Avenfield properties cases.

Wednesday wrote to interior ministry to include names of former Premier Nawaz Sharif in the Exit Control List (ECL).

While a press release issued by the ministry stated that the bureau's request could not be entertained until "a court orders so", speaking to a private media outlet, Minister for Interior Ahsan Iqbal said that a decision would be taken in accordance with the law after he returns from his trip to Norway.

Javed Iqbal had approved the filing of supplementary references against the Sharif family.

The former prime minister and his family members, including Hasan and Hussain Nawaz have been nominated in three references filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) regarding Al-Azizia Steel Mills, Flagship Investment and Avenfield. However, he didn't turn up.

The references were filed in compliance with the Supreme Court's July 28 verdict past year.

Sharif, who was removed from office after the Panama Papers case verdict last July, has been indicted in the three references related to London apartment and offshore companies. The NAB move is part of the pressure tactics used against the Sharif family by different circles so that the former premier gives up his present aggressive campaign.
