Marvin Bagley's status uncertain for Duke's game against Virginia Tech

Blue Devils freshman Marvin Bagley, the ACC leader in points and rebonds per game, will sit out the contest after suffering a mild knee sprain the team's loss at rival North Carolina last Thursday, reports the Raleigh News & Observer's Jonathan M. Alexander.

Virginia Tech won last season at home against Duke. He's second on the team with 1.08 blocks to go along with a steal per game.

Bagley has given Duke a few scares throughout the season. 2 Michigan State on November 14 after he was poked in the eye by a teammate. That was the ACC opener, with Allen sitting out a one-game team suspension for a tripping incident in the team's previous game. He left the game briefly, but eventually returned in Duke's 83-75 win. The school announced this past weekend that he would miss Sunday's game at Georgia Tech for precautionary reasons. He dribbled a basketball and joked with his teammates prior to tip.




Duke started 6-11, 246-pound sophomore center Marques Bolden, in place of Bagley. Nothing conclusive came out of Durham, N.C., on Monday or Tuesday regarding Bagley's status, but Williams indicated Monday afternoon he expects Bagley to play. Bolden started at Georgia Tech and contributed eight points and six rebounds in 25 minutes. Two, he was out for five weeks and he's still not in game condition. "I think they have some of the best players in the country, including the best player in the country, in my opinion".

Lastly, this brings us to the player the Duke needs consistency from, with or without Bagley in the lineup, Trevon Duval.
