Pakistan summons Indian diplomat over unprovoked firing across LoC

Suspicious movements by a group of four to five militants were noticed along LoC in Mendhar sector of Poonch during the night.

Two terrorists have reportedly been killed as the Army has successfully foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control in Mendhar area of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir, on Thursday. "The troops fired and the intruding terrorists were forced to beat a hasty retreat into the Pakistani side", said sources adding that a search operation is on in the area.

The sources said senior commanders of Pakistan Army have been frequently visiting Pakistani posts in the last few weeks in the wake of aggressive response by India to Pakistani actions.

Six Army personnel and a civilian were killed in the terrorist attack on the Sunjuwan military station.

Indian Army Chief General Bipin Rawat, addressing a press conference in New Delhi on January 12 had said, "Ceasefire violation is part of our counter-terrorism strategy".

Pakistan Foreign Office claimed there were 335 ceasefire violations from the Indian side since January 2018.

In the action taken by Pakistani troops, the Indian post along the LoC was also destroyed and many other Indian soldiers were injured, added ISPR. The assessment is there are around 400 terrorists in and around "launch pads" along the LoC, both south and north of the Pir Panjal range, looking for an opportune time to sneak into J&K.
