Brazilian derby abandoned as nine players are shown red cards

A mass brawl broke out after Vinicius equalised for Bahia and then celebrated with a crude dance in front of the home fans (video below).

Vinicius was sent off with fellow goalscorer Denilson, along with Kanu and Rhayner from Vitoria.

A derby between Vitoria and Bahia had to be abandoned with just 11 minutes remaining, with the score tied at 1-1. Vitoria didn't have enough players to field a team as a result of red cards that came after a brawl.

Defender Bruno Bispo tried several times to get a red card from referee, blocking a Bahia player's attempts to take a free kick.

Rules dictate that teams require a minimum of seven players on the pitch for the game to continue.

Seven players were initially sent for the showers but two more red cards were shown later on to leave Vitoria with only six players on the pitch when officials made a decision to call it quits.

Ironically the match was billed "Ba-Vi" of peace, to promote a peaceful climate on and off the field.

This didn't go down too well with Vitoria's players.

That is when tempers overflowed - Vinicius provocatively celebrating his leveller as Vitoria took offence, with goalkeeper Fernando Miguel immediately confronting the Bahia player.
