Arizona's Sean Miller talked about a $100000 payment to secure Deandre Ayton

Arizona's Sean Miller talked about a $100000 payment to secure Deandre Ayton

The conversations between Miller and Christian Dawkins, an employee of Andy Miller's ASM Sports, revolved around DeAndre Ayton.

Late on Friday night, ESPN reported that the Federal Bureau of Investigation has wiretaps of phone conversations where Miller discusses paying $100,000 to make sure freshman forward Deandre Ayton signed with Arizona. Dawkins, according to the report, was instructed by the Arizona head coach to go directly through him for Aytons services.

Schlabach reported the phone calls between Miller and Dawkins were part of 3,000 hours of conversations intercepted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Sources told ESPN that on the recordings, Miller told Dawkins the agency should speak directly to the Arizona head coach, not anyone else on his staff, regarding payments for Ayton.

Arizona has repeatedly said Miller has not been mentioned as being involved in any wrong-doing during the FBI's investigation.

A statement from Arizona athletics at the time said they became aware of Richardson's situation that morning and they would fully cooperate with authorities.

Richardson was one of four college basketball assistants arrested in September and charged with a number of crimes related to bribery, fraud and conspiracy (former Auburn assistant Chuck Person was also arrested in the case). "To the best of my ability, I have worked to demonstrate this over the past 8 years and will continue to do so as we move forward".

The report comes one day after Arizona's second leading scorer, Allonzo Trier, was ruled ineligible effective immediately for failing a second peformance-enhancing drug test.

Arizona is 22-6 overall and in first place in the Pac-12 this season at 12-3 in conference play heading into Saturday's game at Oregon.
