CS 'assault': AAP attacks bureaucracy, LG; officers 'March for Dignity'

CS 'assault': AAP attacks bureaucracy, LG; officers 'March for Dignity'

None of the two AAP MLAs summoned by the Delhi Police in connection with the alleged assault on Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash turned up for questioning today, with the police saying they will be given one more opportunity to do so. Justice Mukta Gupta issued the notice to the Delhi Police and directed them to file a status report in the matter by 7 March, reported PTI.

After denial of bail by the Tis Hazari Court last week, Jarwal had moved the HC for the bail again. Mr. Hussain approached the Delhi court against police inaction and the court has ordered the police to preserve the CCTV footage of the Delhi Secretariat. Senior advocate Rebecca M John, appearing for the MLA, told the court that the investigation in the matter was over and no further custody was required.

"However, she (the judge) has failed to consider the fact that the complainant (Mr Prakash) too is a powerful bureaucrat and is an extremely influential person himself with access to the highest levels of government and bureaucracy", it said. That will be the day when the hearing for bail will come up in court.

The counsel for the AAP MLA sought his release, saying he is a sitting MLA and not a hardened criminal.

Earlier in February, the Chief Secretary had alleged that he was manhandled by two AAP MLAs Amanatullah Khan and Prakash Jarwal at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's residence, where he had been called for an emergency meeting. The court had granted him anticipatory bail.

The Chief Secretary had alleged that he was attacked in the presence of Kejriwal, after being summoned to discuss Aadhaar-related problems.

Meanwhile, the AAP claimed, later in the morning following the alleged assault, the IAS Association called a meeting at the behest of the Chief Secretary and the L-G.

Prakash was allegedly assaulted by some AAP MLAs in front of Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia at the chief minister's residence on the intervening night of February 19-20.
