Arkansas beats Florida in SEC quarterfinals

Barford's deep step-back 3-pointer with 3:30 left stalled South Carolina's momentum and gave the Razorbacks the late burst they needed.

Florida guard Chris Chiozza shoots a 3 against Arkansas at the O'Connell Center in their January 17 game.

Three Ole Miss players scored in double-figures, including Terence Davis with 16 points, Stevens with 15 and Deandre Burnett with 13.

The Rebels fell behind early to SC in the first-half of the game, but in the closing minutes, Ole Miss charged back to make it a 38-36 game at halftime behind the play of Breein Tyree.

Florida never got the game closer than seven after that, as the Razorbacks kept it at bay by making free throws.

During their last five games, the Gators have scored an average of 70.0 points per game (6.2 below their season average) and allowed an average of 63.6 points per game (5.5 below their season average).

Entering the SEC tournament, many wondered which Razorback would step up the most to fill the void left by Dustin Thomas's dismissal.

Arkansas is a very good team right now.

"I think we're slowly picking up steam and we're getting better", Arkansas coach Mike Anderson said. Keith Stone led Florida with 22 points and 5 rebounds in 24 minutes. Florida ended the contest with two transition points, which is their lowest total of the year. Macon, who once again hit key free throws down the stretch to ice the game for the Razorbacks, scored 12 points and passed out 4 assists.

The win made it 40 victories in a row when Arkansas leads at halftime.

In the other quarterfinals, top-seeded Auburn (25-6) faces ninth-seeded Alabama at noon, fourth-seeded Kentucky meets 12th-seeded Georgia at approximately 2:30 p.m., and second-seeded Tennessee plays seventh-seeded Mississippi State.

The biggest shot of the game proved to be a deep, second-half three-pointer by Jaylen Barford just before the shot clock expired that hit all net and extended the Razorbacks' cushion to 5. The Tennessee Volunteers are shooting 37.7 percent from beyond the arc and 75.2 percent from the free throw line.

Silva and Kotsar both scored 15 points to lead SC.

South Carolina: The loss puts an end to any hopes South Carolina had of returning to the NCAA Tournament, where it reached the school's first Final Four a year ago. The games can be streamed on the SEC Network Plus or the WatchESPN app. The Razorbacks have won eight of their past 10 games. The Lonoke native led all Razorbacks hitters with.444 average in the two series, and Martin is hitting.414 on the season with a.793 slugging percentage.
