Democrat Has 4-Point Lead in Pennsylvania Special Election

For the past 15 years, Republican Tim Murphy has easily won Pennsylvania's 18th district - he didn't even have a Democratic opponent in two of his eight elections.

Republican candidate Rick Saccone will join "Cavuto Live" Saturday at 10:00am ET ahead of the critical U.S. House special election on Tuesday.

Strategists in both parties see this contest as a potential bellwether for the November elections. "People are disturbed that what their children are hearing on television from their leader is not fit ... and they're desperately looking for Democrats and Republicans who remember that there's this delicate social fabric, this moral fabric, that holds up our society". Lamb says many local offices in the district are held by Democrats, and that Democratic voters are energized by the novelty of a competitive race.

Saccone may be President Donald Trump's strong favorite in a conservative region, but he is struggling with the basics of modern-day politics.

Conor Lamb, Democratic congressional candidate for Pennsylvania's 18th District, greets supporters as he arrives for a rally at the United Steelworkers Building on Friday in Pittsburgh. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), who was in the House at the time and chaired the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

In Lamb, Democrats seem to have a dream candidate.

Biden hailed Lamb, a 33-year-old former assistant US attorney and Marine Corps captain, as a "son of southwestern Pennsylvania" who will fight for the working class and union rights. He's pro-gun and personally opposed to abortion, although he has said he wouldn't vote to restrict access. The House Democrats' campaign arm, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, has spent $300,000 on his behalf, but Lamb has tried his best to avoid being tied to his party's national brand.

The high-profile reinforcements from the president's orbit were welcomed by Saccone, a 60-year-old state representative, who has wholeheartedly embraced Trump throughout his campaign.

"There is a path for a Democrat to win this district, but that Democrat was never going to be Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton".

There's evidence to support Biden's assertion that Lamb can win.

Some Republicans in the state are displeased with Saccone, Politico reported Wednesday.

"There was a sacred promise made", he said.

Lamb is also benefiting from record-high enthusiasm among Democrats and record-low approval ratings for Trump. Outside Republican groups have come to Saccone's aid, spending millions of dollars in an attempt to keep the seat from flipping.

"When the two candidates were picked ..." The message against Lamb is simple, he said: "This guy would not have voted for tax cuts". And these groups spent millions more on other parts of the campaign, such as digital advertising and get-out-the-vote operations.

Other GOP groups are also spending heavily.

Van Hollen, who now runs the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, said he believes that Republicans are suffering the same message problem as Democrats did in 2010, as they can not shift the blame to anyone else.
