Suresh Prabhu gets another ministry of Aviation as TDP quits Modi cabinet

A few days ago, Raju along with fellow TDP leaders quit the NDA government cabinet after Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao announced that both of their party's leaders will quit the Modi government over unfulfillment of Andhra Pradesh's demand of Special Category Status (SCS).

Union Minister of Commerce & Industries Suresh Prabhu has been allotted Civil Aviation as an additional portfolio following the resignation of Ashok Gajapathy Raju from the Union Cabinet.

The appointment was necessitated after Ashok Gajapathi Raju of T elegu Desam Party (TDP), an ally of the BJP, quit from the Cabinet on Thursday.

The main focus of the government in aviation now is to complete the divestment process of Air India and its subsidiaries before the next general election due in 2019.

Prabhu has previously served as the Railways Ministers. In the cabinet reshuffle a year ago, he was accorded the charge of Commerce and Industry, whereas, Railways was assigned to Piyush Goyal. Following a number of high-profile accidents on the Indian Railways, Prabhu's ministry took over by Piyush Goyal during the Cabinet reshuffle.

TDP, which is the ruling party in Andhra, had sought special category status for the state in order to receive sops and tax concessions.

According to the minister, a dedicated team would be established in Invest India for hand-holding French companies to invest and succeed in this country.
