England's continued lack of discipline will cost them against Ireland

Ireland top the table with 19 points from four games after securing a 28-8 bonus-point victory over Scotland earlier on Saturday, meaning they can not be caught by England when the two teams meet at Twickenham next weekend.

Defeat by Ireland will condemn England to their worst Six Nations performance since 2006 - the last time they lost three matches - and a possible fifth-placed finish.

Ireland won a third Six Nations in five years on Saturday after seeing off Scotland 28-8 at Lansdowne Road.

The breakdown, exposed at Murrayfield, was a fault line once more but even more alarming were the 16 penalties that saw them whistled out of contention by South African referee Jaco Peyper.

"It's just a tough period for us".

"Lose that, which is very possible, and, as defending champions, England will have finished with only two victories".

"Winning the championship is fantastic but if we were to lose next week I think it would take away somewhat from what we have achieved so far", added the 19-times capped worldwide.

"We're just keen to get everyone fit to train on Monday, Tuesday".

"I don't think we should get too carried away or too melodramatic about where we are", he said. "They'll be gunning for us".

"We did not learn quickly enough. Why?"

Daly laid on a try for fellow wing May with six minutes remaining, but it was too little, too late for England, whose day was summed up by the concession of yet another penalty late on, kicked by replacement Lionel Beauxis. "The Six Nations is an unforgiving arena and they now face a rampant Ireland", Woodward wrote in his Daily Mail column.

"On Saturday, though, by lowering their ambition and aiming just for the simple win by any score, they nearly seemed to seal their fate".

"Our defense was remarkable", France coach Jacques Brunel told a news conference after his fourth game in charge.

It was this welcome in Westmeath nearly three decades ago that drew Schmidt from Clermont to Ireland in 2010, when the offer of the Leinster head coach job came up. "On both occasions, we were there".

It was a stint in Ireland during the 1980s - in remote Multyfarnham, Westmeath - where he found his passion for coaching and steered Wilson's Hospital to a Leinster schools title.

Jones has only a week before Grand Slam-chasing Ireland visit Twickenham, bringing with them two of the best flankers in the competition, Dan Leavy and Peter O'Mahony.

"We know how hard it's going to be with England", said Sexton, who was adamant that those who were vanquished on the fields of Edinburgh and Paris will have the same motivation that helped Ireland deny the Red Rose on those famous occasions.

"We know what we want - we want to win this game. They haven't lost at Twickenham under Eddie Jones".

Scotland had their chances but weren't as accurate, and butchered at least two tries.
