Features Make the 2019 Ford Mustang California Special - Special

When the 2019 Ford Mustang GT California Special arrives later this year, it will be available around the country in both fastback and convertible form, with either the 6-speed manual or the 10-speed automatic transmission. The new version draws cues to the original with a blacked-out grille, racing stripe and California Special logo placed on the lid of the trunk.

The original California Special, dubbed the GT/CS, was a dealer-specific package offered only in the coastal state before Ford took it nation-wide in 1968.

Most recognizable of all its many visual tweaks is the California Special's fading black side stripes - a telltale fixture that's been a part of every GT/CS since the second-generation model from 2007-'09.

The California Special includes the Mustang's 5.0-liter V-8 mated to a six-speed manual transmission and will get 460 hp and 420 pound-feet of torque. A "California Special" script badge adorns the dash on the passengers side.

Ford did not release pricing information for the 2019 California Special.

Customers who opt for the special edition auto get a blacked-out grille, exclusive wheels, a lower splitter and a side body stripe. The wheels are unique machined 5-spoke units.

Climb inside the new GT Calfiornia Special and you'll be greeted by seats trimmed in black Miko® suede with red accent stitching and embossed GT/CS insignias, paired with embroidered GT/CS floor mats.

Ford has announced that the legendary California Special package will return for the 2019 Mustang pony auto.

As far as body colors are concerned, Ford adds three new such hues for 2019: Velocity Blue, Need for Green and Dark Highland Green.
