Microsoft announces several new AI features for Teams

To soften the blow, Microsoft has announced some new Teams features to arrive at some undefined point in the future, possibly the second quarter of 2018.

Microsoft Teams was officially launched in March last year as Redmond to mount a challenge to workplace communication app Slack, which has rapidly established itself as an enterprise tool in recent years. ConocoPhillips, General Motors, Macys, NASCAR, and Technicolor are among the 200,000 organizations using Teams today, said Lori Wright, Microsoft's GM of Teams and Skype for Business, in a No Jitter briefing.

But perhaps of the more interesting new additions will the addition of inline message translation. But, more importantly for those that are using the software, the company is sharing a few features that are working their way down the pipeline.

Background blur on video-The ability to blur your background during video calls will allow other meeting attendees to focus on you, not what's behind you. If participants that speak different languages join in, Teams will support in-line message translation to let them "fluidly communicate with one another by translating posts in channels and chat".

Automatically record conference calls- Microsoft Teams can now automatically record conference calls and transcribe it for you.

Microsoft has boasted of an impressive rise in the number of organisations using its Teams messaging, collaboration and communications tool. In the future, it will also include facial recognition, so remarks can be attributed to specific meeting attendees. This functionality will extend to IP phones and conference room devices.

Proximity detection for Teams Meetings-This feature will make it easy for you to discover and add a nearby and available Skype Room System to any meeting. The company shared today Teams will pick up consultative transfer and call delegation and federation features.

Whether a customer chooses to use the Microsoft Calling Plan or Direct Routing will come down to pricing considerations and existing relationships, she added. It'll also let you share a live video stream, photos or screens from your smartphone.
