WhatsApp extends Delete for All message time limit

Hackers have been abusing the Delete for All feature to delete messages sent years rather than minutes ago, and the app now makes additional checks to make sure messages no older than 24 hours can be deleted.

WhatsApp's "Delete for Everyone" feature has been criticised ever since its launch.Earlier WhatsApp allowed users to delete messages within 7 minutes, which it recently extended to roughly 68 minutes. The feature was spotted in Android beta, and it looks like this has been rolled out to iOS and Windows versions of the WhatsApp as well.

According to WaBetaInfo (@wabetainfo), a Twitter account that tracks changes in WhatsApp's beta builds, the app will silently add the "Block revoke request" feature, which will prevent the misuse of Delete for everyone feature.

WABetaInfo has noticed that the latest version of WhatsApp extends that time limit significantly to one hour, eight minutes, and 16 seconds. When the recipient received this particular message contained the revoke request, WhatsApp checked if the ID of the message was present in the database and directly deleted it.

Now, the company is testing a new feature, which would allow users to customize the shape and size of the WhatsApp icon on the home screen.

Business Report earlier this month reported that there is a way to read messages on WhatsApp without the sender knowing. If now deletes message with only date of less than 24 hours.

What happens at the moment with the messaging app is that if a "Delete for everyone" request feature was sent out, then WhatsApp would just match the request ID to the message ID and then delete if a match was found.

This will give people more time to delete messages sent by mistake.
