'American Idol' Reboot Judges Open Up About Reality TV Competition

Nowhere has seen higher highs and lower lows when it comes to reality television than the American Idol audition stage. Ryan Seacrest returned as the host of the series.

A Dodgeville singer/songwriter worked her way through the auditions. The premiere for the reboot also saw the return of some "American Idol" alums like Jordin Sparks, Carrie Underwood and Ruben Studdard.

Our Madison affiliate WKOW 27 News sent her to the front of the line in Chicago for the national auditions, where show producers sent her to Nashville to sing in front of the new American Idol judges. "I stand by him", said Frot-Coutaz.

This time, the show is on ABC instead of Fox, and there's a brand new trio of judges: Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryant.

But when he belted out "The Way You Look Tonight" by Frank Sinatra, the judges were amazed by the depth of his sound and the richness in his voice.

"All I can tell you about the next step is it's incredible and I can't wait for you guys to see it", Alyssa Raghu said.

She did, but it wasn't quite enough.

According to NPR, though, it may be tough for "Idol" to go up as ABC's revival continues. She called this a "pinch me" kind of moment that ended with three "yes" votes and that shiny golden ticket to Hollywood.

America Idol is officially back. "I feel really excited about this".

"It all started when I was about 7 years old".

"The life of a musician has its ups and downs, it's adventurous".

"I've always thought that she was special".

It's been a long American Idol journey and one that's opened a lot of doors for Julica.

Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan are at the judges' table this time around and fortunately - or maybe unfortunately - there isn't a Simon Cowell-type in the bunch.

"Definitely to record an album. My mom, for Christmas, she got me a First Act guitar at Wal-Mart, and then after about a year, they put me in guitar lessons because I wanted to learn how to play the guitar", he says. "Nothing's gonna stop me from pushing toward my dream". Once the two men helped Perry to her feet, Richie stated, "Some things you have to do for the business".
