Russian emigre Nikolai Glushkov found dead in London home

Without confirming the man's name, London's Metropolitan police said the counterterrorism command unit was leading the investigation into the death "as a precaution because of associations that the man in believed to have had".

Kudryavtsev added about Glushkov: "He was very good friend, lonely person, bright manager". The U.K. has said it was "highly likely" Russian Federation was behind the poisoning, which left the pair in critical condition. She added that police removed several bags of evidence.

The death comes nine days after former Russian double agent Sergei Skripal, 66, and his daughter Yulia, 33, were found slumped on a park bench in Salisbury after being poisoned by a rare nerve agent.

Glushkov told the inquiry that he bumped into Litvinenko in the office of Boris Berezovsky, a powerful oligarch and émigré who was found dead in 2013 on the bathroom floor of his home in Berkshire, on the western outskirts of London.

Meanwhile, Britain's government announced that police and security services will open new investigations into more than a dozen deaths reportedly linked to Russian security services and mafia groups.

Police said that they believe they know the man's identity and that his family has been notified, but that officials are still awaiting a formal identification.

Glushkov refused to believe there had been no foul play in Berezovsky's demise - particularly as it came years after the death of another ally, the Georgian billionaire Badri Patarkatsishvili, who had died of an apparent heart attack in Surrey.

In the 1990s, Glushkov worked for the state airline, Aeroflot, along with Berezovsky's LogoVaz auto company.

Britain granted Berezovsky political asylum three years later on the grounds his life would be in danger if he went back home.

He said: "I'm definite Boris was killed".

Glushkov left Russian Federation after a Moscow court sentenced him to a two-year suspended sentence for fraud in 2006.

Mr Glushkov is survived by two children, Natasha and Dima, and an ex-wife who is thought to live in Moscow.
