Southwest Airlines flight from Phoenix makes emergency landing

A Southwest Airlines flight from Phoenix bound for Dallas Love Field made an emergency landing in Albuquerque Sunday night after a malfunction of some kind produced smoke towards the rear of the plane. A crewmember can be heard shouting, "Move away from the aircraft now!"

"Some people had ramps or slides but some had to jump off the wing", said passenger Paul Allen. One attendant asked Fleck if he knew how to open the emergency door since he was sitting on an exit row.

Southwest flight 3562 took off from Phoenix and was headed for Dallas Love Field, but was forced to landed in Albuquerque after what might have been an electrical fire.

Southwest said it worked to get passengers onboard another flight to Dallas, and the aircraft will remain in Albuquerque where mechanics will inspect it.

The statement added there were 140 passengers onboard the plane when the incident occurred, all of whom were evacuated from the aircraft upon landing.

According to Southwest Airlines, five customers requested medical attention.

The captain of flight 3562 noticed smoke in the cabin and announced that the aircraft would be landing as the closest possible airport.

Fire officials in Albuquerque tweeted that two people were injured and taken to a hospital. No word on the extent of their injuries.

A Dallas police officer on the flight praised the actions of the crew in a tweet.

Southwest is the largest airline operating out of Tampa International Airport.
