Spotify will now let users edit song information

Desktop users can access Line-In by clicking on the three dotes next to each artist, song or album.

A new Spotify "Line-In" feature allows users to suggest edits to the information (metadata) that the streamer has about artists, albums and songs.

By experimenting with the tool, Line-In, it hopes to better understand how Spotify listeners interpret music, so that it can improve experiences for both listeners and artists. Last we heard, Apple just last month noted that Apple Music had 36 million subscribers, which is to say the company's streaming service saw a 5% bump in users in just about four weeks time.

"We've also seen that listeners are eager to describe the music they're passionate about in ways beyond traditional concepts like genre and mood". Suggestions will be vetted, and users' metadata recommendations will be ranked based on the quality of their past submissions. "Spotify considers the source, and thoroughly reviews and checks the accuracy of this information, before the suggestions are folded into the data that powers our services", its spokesperson clarified. For instance, Line-In includes a number or surveys to test a submitter's music knowledge.

The world's largest music-streaming service, Spotify, will officially launch in South Africa this week.

Apple's Apple Music streaming service, which has been No. 2 in US subscribers behind Spotify AB, is quickly gaining ground against its rival and may overtake it this summer.

In Vietnam, would-be customers pay 59,000 Vietnamese Dong per month for a subscription - equivalent to around $2.50 per day.
